About Us...

Between the years 2000 and 2008 the Moon-Rays recorded four albums of spookily tinged music for SVI.  The first album "Thrills and Chills" won the JPF Indie award for best surf based album. That year there were 30,000 album submissions and 300,000 single recordings. 1313 Mockingbird Ln. also won first in the single category.  The bands second album The Ghouls Go West was picked by WXRT in Chicago as best new indie release on Richard Milne's Local Anesthetic radio show -
Songs off all four of the MR's albums have been used in no less that five feature films and two commercials. The Moon-Rays can also be heard all everywhere around Halloween pretty much due to their rotation in Muzak and Halloween playlists around the country

We can't say how much we have appreciated the fans of our music and their loyalty the past 17 years.

The bands catalog of music has been influenced by many different genres although they are all similar, from Martin Denny's Exotica, to Henry Mancini's slinky Crime jazz, the Spy sounds of James Bond and The Man from UNCLE, to the twangy surf of Dick Dale. As we said on the liner notes of our very first recording ..

Surfing, Monsters and Spies...If they ever decide to re-make any of the old Frankie and Annette beach movies, throw in the creature from the Black lagoon and spy girl Stefanie Powers to fight him off you'd have the groundwork for a Moon-Rays album.
Spy-Fi music not a true genre at least not till THE MOON-RAYS CAME ALONG...
